Places I Recommend
Here is an outline of our trip so far. Included are places we highly recommend for stops along the way-good places to eat, sleep, and board your horse. Everyone here has donated to our ride and we are extremely grateful for their support!
May 22 - Oak Tree Inn, Vaughn, NM-this is a great motel and very giving! They donated a room to us for day use and then went ahead and let us stay the night as well! I sure did need it due to chaffing and a killer headache so this Motel was a life saver for me...very clean and the people are so polite as well.
Penny's Diner attached-great food. Going there this morning as well!

A special thank you to Kelly and James Verret at the Left Boot Corral in Joshua Tree, CA. After deciding that Sojourner needed a week's rest to work out his diet and get him in tip top shape before the desert, they opened their home to us for over a week, gave Soj an incredibly comfortable place to live, fed him morning and night, James is teaching both me and Soj new tricks of the trade, they donated their hay and a TRAILER!!, they called their friends and have had a farrier named James Faunt Jr. come out who donated his services and perfectly rounded off Soj's hooves. They called upon their friend, Paula, who has been incredibly informative and has donated a years worth of her organic hay to Sojourner! James is an amazing trainer who is worth traveling to bring your horse to. I really mean this, not just because he is so kind and patient, but I got to see him work with Sojourner yesterday and he got Soj to do things he has never done. He works with minimal tools. He had a halter and lead rope. I told him it was magic and he said "it's not magic, it's just learning to communicate with the horse". Not everyone communicates like that though. He's magic. His website is still under construction, but it will be www.jamesverrethorsemanship.com. He's the man to see about a horse, that's for sure. A huge thank you. What a gift to be with them.
Thank you to Sue Lund and Sally Ellis at Coyote Ridge Riding Stables in Morongo Valley, CA for donating a night's rest for Sojourner and to their friend, Ron Scragg, for donating his amazing homestead on the hill to Walter and I for the night. We enjoyed a home cooked meal and old cowboy tunes played by Scragg. It was a fantastic evening with amazing people. Oh! They also donated a lead rope after I lost mine on the trail!
Thank you to the Rose Bowl Riders for donating food and board for Sojourner and the guest house for me and Walter. This is a beautiful facility in Pasadena, CA. run by an incredible group of women.
Thank you to the San Dimas Equestrian Center in San Dimas, CA. for donating a stall to Sojourner for a night!
Thank you to the Sundance Ranch in Redlands, CA. for donating two nights room and board for Soj, me, and Walter. This is a beautiful family run facility with some of the best people you will ever meet.
Thank you to the Camelot Training Center in Banning, CA for donating 2 nights room and board for Sojourner, Walter, and I. Camelot is run by Athaea who is an incredibly knowledgeable, caring horse woman. Athaea also donated a horse blanket, feed, and leg warmers to Sojourner to help make our ride a success. I am so grateful to her.
Thank you to the HH Ranch in White Water, CA. for donating a pen for Sojourner for a night!
Thank you to Hadley's Fruit Orchard for donating $50 worth of food to help get us through the desert!
